This active game really helps to get the steady beat and rhythm in the students head as they walk to the beat of the tempo. This is a game of lots of fun and laughter!
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Objective: To review tempo meanings & gain an internal rhythm
Materials:
- Chairs, one less chair than players
- One die (try out this pair of dice for some really big fun!)
- Metronome, or a song you can speed up or slow down
- Tempo Chart, labeled 1-6
Tempo from PianoTels.pdf (645 downloads)
Players needed: works best with multiple players, the more the better
Game Set-up:
Set up the chairs in a tight circle, facing out.
Game Play:
One student rolls the die to determine which tempo we will be using for this round. Set the metronome, or the song, to the chosen tempo.
The students must walk around the chairs at the beat of the tempo. Randomly stop the song and the students must sit down. Since there is one less chair than people, one student won’t have a chair and he/she will be “out”.
Keep playing the game always choosing a new tempo and taking away a chair every round so that there is always one less chair than players. Enjoy the laughter and the fun!
